To me it seems the air during the night is fresher than it is in the daytime. So, when I'm stressed out from a long week (like this one), then I like to get out after the sun goes down and relax a little. If this week has been stressful for you as well, I hope these outdoor activities will clear your mind as much as they do mine.

If your interested in getting a little stargazing in with a few friends, I would suggest you going to the well-known Train Bridge. Train bridge is about 25 minutes outside of Kirksville, but well worth the drive. To get to Train Bridge take Baltimore south to US-63. Follow 63 for about 9 miles and then make a left onto State Hwy E. You'll take the fourth left onto Banner Lane followed by a right on Country Road 316 about a mile ahead.

With your separation from civilization, you won't have city lights intruding on your ability to see every star in the night sky. It's very relaxing, but that is not all that Train Bridge has to offer. Every once in a while, a train will pass under the bridge. For a rush of adrenaline, hold onto the railing facing the train as it approaches. Sometimes it feels like the train is coming right at you and then it passes under the bridge creating huge a blast of air. I find it quite exhilarating.

Here's a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DsnZSx-10A

It's supposed to be in the upper 60's this weekend, but it gets colder at night. Bring a jacket just in case.

  1. This was one of the first places I went when I moved to Kirksville. It was awesome and I always go at least once a year.
